Volunteering in the Cerritos Community
Nothing feels better than giving back. Taking the time out of your day to help your community is noble, and it can help with a variety of issues that are impacting the lives of fellow residents every day. Luckily, in Cerritos, there are plenty of ways that you can give back. To help you get started, here’s a few places you may want to consider volunteering in the Cerritos community.
BLINDSTART
Since 2006, BLINDSTART has been an organization that continuously helps blind residents in the area achieve their goals. Through fun and challenging competitions, BLINDSTART aims to help visually impaired individuals develop skills and knowledge through team-related activities. They even provide scholarships to help visually impaired individuals develop skills so they can work towards leading a life of reward and independence. You can help out by donating money, or you can volunteer your time to help out with their upcoming events, spanning from marathons, Dragon Boat races, and fundraisers.
Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation
The Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation has been keeping kids outdoors since 2001. This organization encourages youth in California to get involved with fishing. Daniel Hernandez is an avid fisherman, outdoor journalist, and television host. He encourages children of all ages to get outdoors and embrace the water. He’s started junior fishing clubs and sponsored several fishing excursions on lakes and on the ocean. You can volunteer your time in a variety of ways, through running fundraising booths, or helping with fishing events. Keep up with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation on Facebook to see when the next big event is!
Giving Children Hope
The staff at Giving Children Hope aim to provide health and wellness programs, as well as disaster response to vulnerable children and families locally and globally. This faith-based organization helps provide medical resources, adequate nutrition, and shelter to countries and communities afflicted by natural disasters, famine, and even displacement from war. They collect and ship out overstocked medical supplies and donated food to help better the lives of children and families in these countries and communities. You can get involved by volunteering at their facility and warehouse to help stock and ship cargo containers, or you can donate money and non-perishable food items to help them continue their mission of bettering the lives of children and families. Stay updated on their mission by following them on Facebook!
If you’re looking to volunteer your time and efforts in the Cerritos area, any of these local non-profit organizations are a great way to get started!
