Guide to the 2017 Los Angeles, CA, Earth Day Celebration

When it comes to understanding how we can impact our environment, there’s plenty of resources available to Los Angeles residents. And while learning about our planet may seem like boring task, LA Sanitation (LASAN) is dedicated to making this endeavor as fun and convenient as possible. That is why, for the second year, they’re hosting a massive Earth Day celebration.

LA Sanitation Mission

Without LA’s sanitation department, the Earth Day celebration would never have come to fruition. And though you might traditionally imagine sanitation as doing little more than sweeping up trash, LASAN is an incredibly dynamic group that works hard every day to push the bounds of what a clean city can be.

In this vast metropolis of 4 million, LASAN is the lead environmental agency. They protect public health through the management of three programs:

  • Clean water (wastewater)
  • Solid resources (solid waste management)
  • Watershed protection (stormwater)

They collect, treat, recycle, and dispose of all city waste—organic or otherwise—to offer residents more economic, environmental, and social benefits.

2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration

A huge part of the LASAN eco initiative is educating residents. After all, environmental protection is a collaborative effort, and progress isn’t possible unless all of Los Angeles works together.

The Earth Day celebration is all about teaching. Both adults and children can come together to learn about our ecosystem by participating in interactive exhibits. At last year’s celebration, there were 50 exhibitors, and LASAN expects even more this year.

Though this event may be educational in nature, its main goal is fun. Attendees can enjoy free food and live entertainment. For visitors of all ages, there will also be games and prize giveaways.

When and where? The celebration will take place on April 22 at Exposition Park. Join the fun anytime between 10 am and 2 pm.

How much does it cost? Admission is free! Our environment is inclusive, which means this event should be, too. Price can’t hold you back from learning about your planet.

What’s the best way to get there? If you choose to drive, there will be designated parking around the celebration. However, this is an eco-friendly event. So, in keeping with the LASAN initiative, there are a few alternative suggestions:

  • Carpool to save on gas and emissions.
  • Try public transportation.
  • Ride a bike.
  • If you’re within distance, walk.
