5K Long Beach Turkey Trot

Before you gobble down half a Butterball this Thanksgiving, why not feel like you’ve earned it by participating a leisurely 5K? Okay, so maybe that doesn’t sound leisurely to some people, but for those of you who don’t know, 100% of the proceeds from the 5K Long Beach Turkey Trot will go toward the Community Action Team (CAT). This is a local nonprofit organization committed to improving the lives of people within the community. So what’s the hold up? This fun event isn’t just good for your body, it’s also good for your karma.

In this guide to the 5K Long Beach Turkey Trot, we’ll cover all of the key details and need-to-know information so you can be fully prepared to get your trot on this Thanksgiving.

5K Long Beach Turkey Trot Basics

The 5K—there’s also a 10K for you ambitious types—starts at 7 am, 8:30 am, and 10 am. The kids’ 1/2-mile WingDing will start at 9:40 am for kids ages 8 to 12 and at 9:45 am for those ages 7 and under. Registration fees will increase as we get closer to race day, with prices for the adult 5K topping out at $40 after November 22. Registration for the kids’ 1/2-mile caps off at $35 after November 22.

No dogs, bikes, skates, or scooters will be allowed, and if you’re pushing a stroller, you must start at the back of the pack. All races will take place at the Granada Boat Launch Ramp located at 1 Granada Avenue in Belmont Shore.

Pro tip: Bring two cans of non-perishables or a $2 donation to CAT and receive free beachfront parking on the day of the event and the day before.

About CAT

CAT is a 501c3 non-profit that hosts numerous activities and events geared toward improving their community and the lives of its residents. CAT is responsible for monthly beach cleanups, the Long Beach Giving Project, the July Fourth Kids’ Bike Parade, and much more. In total, CAT is responsible for putting on more than 60 events and projects every year.

Turkey Trot Prizes

While you’re encouraged to run or walk at your own pace, there will be prizes awarded to the fastest male and female times for all three start times. Top finishers will receive a prize, a pie, and a blue ribbon. Second and third place finishers will still get a ribbon and a pie.

All participants will receive a free Turkey Trot T-shirt (try saying that five times fast!), and 632 lucky finishers will get a sweet holiday pie. Oranges and bananas will be available free at the finish line so you can replenish those muscles you’ll need for digesting that turkey later.
