2013 Honda Fit EV: Fully Powered by Electricity

With a hydrogen-powered FCX Clarity, Civic Natural Gas and a trio of hybrids in the Honda family line-up the automobile mogul Honda has added the 2013 Honda Fit EV to round it up, at least temporarily. The 2013 Honda Fit EV is a limited electric car edition that comes in with an 82-mile range and the highest mpg there is in the market. Because the EV edition is named as Honda Fit, it does resemble like one except for some aspects that need to be revised to fit in with the car’s electric-driven engine.

One modification the Honda Fit EV underwent is a raised interior floor height by at least three inches. The increased floor height is used to accommodate the electric – powered sub-compact’s massive lithium-ion battery pack placed in its cabin floor. To compensate for the raised floor, the car’s rear seats are given with enough headroom with additional three inches legroom.

The car’s drive system comes in with three modes namely Econ, Normal and Sport modes. The electric motor output for these modes is 47 kW, 75 kW and 92 kW, respectively. 2013 Honda Fit EV’s 92 – kilowatt electric motor can deliver 189 lb-ft torque. For the normal driving mode, acceleration is pretty strong with a generous passing power on highway drive. The Econ mode on the other hand has the capability to increase its driving capacity to about 17 percent but may create irritating sounds. The sport mode is pretty good when it comes to overtaking moves.

The Fit EV is integrated with a HondaLink EV smartphone app that helps users to schedule the time the car needs to be charged. To charge fully EV’s battery, users must attach it to a standard 120-volt power supply which normally takes 15 hours of charging time while a 240-volt will only require three hours of charging.
